Implementing VoIP

Implementing Voice over IP

There are 3 methods of implementing VoIP. Each depends on what you intend on achieving and your current setup.

  • Direct VoIP Connection to a PBX

    • If your PBX is VoIP capable and ready, then you can directly connect to our service via your internet connection. A small amount of configuration is required on the PBX for this setup, e.g. user name, password, server address, etc. We have tested a number of leading PBX manufacturers including Avaya, LG Nortel, Aastra & Samsung. We are currently testing other systems and welcome all enquiries.
  • VoIP Adaptor Connection to PBX

    • If your PBX is not VoIP capable then you will need a 3rd Party VoIP gateway. These gateway boxes replicate dial tone to your PBX (ISDN or Analogue) but connect via your internet to our service using VoIP. E.g. Company A has 6 standard lines but want to use 2 lines for VoIP calling. The PBX has no more capacity so we cancel 2 existing lines and replace with a 2 line gateway. The company still has 6 lines of which 2 are now VoIP lines. Either Least Cost Routing LCR or manual line selection is used to access the lines. This is a very common method of implementing VoIP as it is cost effective and easy to install.
  • Standalone VoIP Telephones

    • A standalone VoIP telephone is an IP telephone which connects directly to our service. No PBX or middleware is used. With our service it is possible to have any number of VoIP telephones in a cluster which mimics a PBX. Each user has a unique extension number, e.g. 201, 202, etc, and can call each other as though connected through the same network, and although they can be in the same office can also be located worldwide. Incoming calls can be distributed amongst a group of extensions or directed to just 1 user. This type of PBX set up is called Hosted PBX and is becoming ever more popular. The cost is minimum as no central server/PBX is required, and the features are exceptional. Web Voicemail, Call Recording, Call Queuing with Queue Position Announcements, Call Reporting and more.
